Table of Contents
Indio Food Truck Fridays | Every Friday
If you haven’t been to Downtown Indio lately, let me tell you: this is one of the most exciting desert neighborhoods to keep an eye on. One of the best ways to enjoy downtown is at Indio Food Truck Fridays. And yes, this weekly event is totally family-friendly! Every Friday night from 5-10 p.m., Downtown Indio fills up with food trucks from around the valley, plus family-friendly activities and live music! Last time I went, they had a bounce house/slide and raffle prizes. It was a fun event for all ages! Definitely check this one out if you love local food and are looking for a fun event for the kids.
Movies in the Park: Jurassic Park | May 14
Movies in the Park returns to Downtown Palm Springs for an evening screening of “Jurassic Park”! Grab your blankets, pack a picnic, and take the family to the Downtown Palm Springs Park for this free outdoor movie screening.
MakerSpace Camp at La Quinta Creation Station | May 18
For creative kids, don’t miss the MakerSpace 3D Printing & TinkerCAD Camp at La Quinta Creation Station. This one-day camp will cover the basics of 3D printing and creating 3D files in TinkerCAD. Best of all, this camp is only $5! RSVP here for kids between 7-13 years of age.
Family+ at Palm Springs Art Museum | May 19
Keep the creativity flowing at Family+, a monthly celebration of the arts for all ages at the Palm Springs Art Museum. This month, Family+ falls on May 19 (it’s always held on the third Sunday of the month) and brings makers, artists, and musicians to the museum for a hands-on day of workshops, crafts, and other activities. This month, Family+ activities include a drawing workshop for all skill levels, a crocheting workshop, a yoga and movement class, and a garden sculpture take-home craft.
Plus, the afternoon includes face painting, a photo booth, and a BBQ vendor! This is one of the best ways to enjoy an afternoon in the desert with the family!
Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert Soft Opening | May 25
It’s almost time for the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert to open its doors once again and I cannot wait! I remember this museum from when I was a kid, and I can’t wait to share this with my daughter. May 25 is the first official reopening to the public, but keep in mind that CDMoD will be reopening in phases. After all, they’re bringing in a whopping 40 exhibits to keep the littles exploring and active! The grand opening will be in July, but we’ll definitely be there to check it out as soon as it opens this month!
Movies in the Park: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure | May 28
Time for another outdoor movie night! Gather the family, pack your picnics, chairs and blankets, and head down to the Downtown Palm Springs Park for a free outdoor movie screening of “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure!”
This one even has a Palm Springs tie-in: did you know the dinosaurs from this very movie are right outside Palm Springs in Cabazon, CA? They make the perfect road trip stop when coming to Palm Springs!
