If you’re coming to the desert for Spring Break or are just looking for kid-friendly things to do in the Coachella Valley, there’s plenty for the kids to enjoy this month! From movies under the stars to kite-building workshops and a Dia De Los Ninos Cultural Fair, there’s something for the kids to enjoy all month long.
Here are my favorite picks for things to do with kids in Palm Springs this April!
Table of Contents
Indio Food Truck Fridays | Every Friday
Downtown Indio is undergoing a renaissance, and one of my favorite ways to enjoy the best downtown has to offer is at Indio Food Truck Fridays. This is a tasty–and totally family-friendly!–event in downtown Indio. Every Friday night from 5-10 p.m., the corner of Towne Street and Bliss Avenue hosts food trucks from around the valley, plus family-friendly activities and live music! Last time I went, they had a bounce house/slide and raffle prizes. It was a fun event for all ages! Definitely check this one out if you love local food and are looking for a fun event for the kids.
Fly Over LQ: A Kite Experience | April 6

How fun is this? Let’s go fly a kite at SilverRock Park! Fly Over LQ: A Kite Experience gives the family a fun chance to craft and design your very own kite before flying it over La Quinta! Held from 8-10 a.m., kids will have a chance to learn about all different kinds of kite styles before creating their own!
Already have your own kite? Bring it on down! Instructors will be on hand to help the kids construct, decorate, and fly kites all morning long. Oh, and this event is totally free for the family!
Movies in the Park: E.T. | April 16
Bring the whole family down to the Downtown Park in Palm Springs for an outdoor screening of a classic family movie: “E.T.: The ExtraTerrestrial.” This is part of the ongoing “Movies in the Park” series held in the Downtown Palm Springs Park this spring. My favorite way to enjoy these events is to pack a picnic, blankets, and chairs, to enjoy a movie under the stars!
Dia de Los Ninos Cultural Fair | April 20
Bring the entire family down to the La Quinta Library for a Children’s Day celebration! This Dia de Los Ninos cultural fair features a storywalk, giveaway prizes, booths, and carnival-style games. There are even goody bags available while supplies last!
Family+ at Palm Springs Art Museum | April 21
Family+ returns to the Palm Springs Art Museum on Sunday, April 21 for an afternoon of art, creativity, and family-friendly fun! Every third Sunday, the museum brings together makers, artists, and musicians for workshops, crafts, and other activities. This month, Family+ will focus on Earth Day and sustainability. Children can learn about screen-printing while making their very own prints; create their own craft in a suncatcher workshop; and a recycling experience where kids will create flowers from recycled materials (a take-home craft).
Plus, the afternoon includes face painting, a photo booth, and a BBQ vendor! This is a great family-friendly afternoon (and a smart way to avoid all the Coachella crowds that weekend!).
La Quinta City Picnic & Birthday Celebration | April 27
The City of La Quinta is turning 42–and everyone’s invited to the birthday party! On Saturday, April 27, the City of La Quinta hosts its City Picnic and Birthday Celebration at Civic Center Campus. Spend the morning enjoying non-stop entertainment, children’s activities, snacks, refreshments, and goody giveaways! Happy birthday, La Quinta!
Star Party in the Mountains | April 27
If you have kiddos who love the stars, don’t miss Star Party in the Mountains, hosted by Friends of the Desert Mountains. This is a great event for kids who want to learn more about the night sky (note that all minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian). During this night-time event, you’ll get a chance to take “sky tours” by looking through telescopes and binoculars. This is held in the parking lot of the Sawmill Trailhead, off Highway 74.
Glow in the Park | Through April 28
If you haven’t checked out Glow in the Park yet, this is the month to do it! I covered this experience over on Instagram (Reel above!) and for Coachella Valley Weekly. It’s one of my favorite family-friendly events in Palm Springs–don’t miss it!
Movies in the Park: The Sandlot | April 30
Movies in the Park returns at the end of the month for a screening under the stars of another family-friendly classic: The Sandlot! Grab your blankets, pack a picnic, and take the family to the Downtown Palm Springs Park for this free outdoor movie screening.
And there you have it, my favorite family-friendly events in Palm Springs this April! If you’re planning a trip, don’t miss my top picks for family-friendly Palm Springs hotels!
